The church is always welcoming to new comers and has a friendly—albeit large—group of people. And the worship music is great every single time. The worship bands are incredibly talented, and the songs are always poignant. The teaching is rooted in the Bible with solid messages from talented speakers.
Even though it is a big church, there is still a warm community atmosphere. There are several different groups that meet up through the church, including a young adults group. After the final night service, there is a young adult event called the After Party. People head to a selected bar or restaurant around the CBD and drink, eat and chill together. It’s a great way to meet people in the city.
I really enjoyed attending Hillsong Church and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a church in Melbourne. I think the best way to get involved is to attend a service consistently, join a small group and volunteer. Church was definitely one of the highlights of my time in Australia, mainly because of the great people I met and enjoyed life with.
The City Campus is located at the Athenaeum Theatre at 188 Collins Street. There are four services on Sundays: 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. During the winter, both night services start half an hour early.
